15 Photos of Roger Federer’s Surfer Necklace Collection, 2000-2002

You may know Roger Federer from his 17 Grand Slam titles, but did you know that before he started winning those, Federer was once an avid collector of surfer necklaces?

Yes, that’s right. Federer was asked about his necklaces in a 2001 presser:

Q. Where did you get the beads? What do they stand for?

ROGER FEDERER: The necklace? I don’t know. First I had a gold necklace from my mother once for birthday. That one got too small then, and somehow I got into these surfer necklaces. So I liked them, I started to buy them. I have a whole collection of them.

Q. So this is one in a series?

ROGER FEDERER: Exactly.

I present to you a photo history of Federer’s glorious surfer necklace collection. He appears to have stopped wearing them around the 2002 US Open, sadly.
