WTA Chairman Stacey Allaster stirred up a bit of controversy, suggesting the tour would fly Genie’s Army to Singapore if their heroine qualifies. She quickly backpedaled, but it’s clear that the WTA doesn’t want to lose out on an iota of the publicity that comes with having a pretty blonde talented rising star:

You know you’re big when your fan club becomes a marketing tool, not just for you but for the nation’s tennis program and the entire tour (as such, Tennis Canada is footing the bill for lodging and feeding Genie’s troops, and the Women’s Tennis Association said it will fly them to Singapore if Bouchard qualifies for the season-ending tour championships).

The Andy Murray-Amelie Mauresmo pairing will last for at least the next month, and it sounds like Andy hopes it won’t end anytime soon:

“Dani and Amelie will both be there at the US Open. That’s the plan for now, but I plan on working with her for longer than post-US Open, for sure.”

Unfortunately, the ATP Tel Aviv event scheduled for September has been cancelled:

However, with the rocket fire towards central Israel continuing in recent days, the ATP Board of Directors notified the Israel Tennis Association on Monday that the tournament is canceled.

“We really regret the ATP’s decision,” said ITA chairman Asi Tuchmayer. “We did everything we could so that the tournament would take place in Israel. We had effectively finished the preparations. Ultimately, we hope that peace and quiet will return to our region, which is more important than any tournament.”

Israel will also, in all likelihood, need to find a new location for its upcoming Davis Cup tie against Argentina.
