Maria Kirilenko Is In the Top 10, Let’s Make Party!

I just thought we could have a little Maria Kirilenko appreciation post, because the Russian is in the top 10 and to be honest, I did not ever think that would happen.

(I don’t mean that as an insult.)

Anyways, Kiri is just precious. Here she is after her fourth round win over Bethanie Mattek-Sands, celebrating making her first French Open quarterfinal with the Tennis Channel crew:

You should watch all of it, because it’s the most adorable interview ever, but definitely watch at 2:00 on when she starts gawking over her own highlights and asking them to repeat them.

Even though she lost today in the quarterfinals to Victoria Azarenka, she got a nice consolation prize when Jelena Jankovic lost–she’s definitely in the Top 10. I think she was excited.


Also, she and her boyfriend, hockey player Alex Ovechkin, totally double-bageled everyone else in the French Open with their Twitter use:

Seriously though, it’s been a blast to see Kirilenko come into her own over the past year. She’s consistent, she beats the players she’s supposed to, and she’s incredibly solid off of both wings. That is no small feat, and neither is the top 10.

It’s definitely time to make party.

    Oh. My. Gosh. She is too cute for words! I started following her on Twitter on your recommendation (where she’s been a deligt), but that interview!! Gah. I love her even more now (and I’m even sadder that she couldn’t stretch Azarenka more, thanks for that, lol). Great post!
