10 YouTube Videos to Watch in the Offseason

A break from tennis? Who needs that? It’s the offseason, which means it’s time to spend hours on YouTube watching tennis videos while you wait anxiously for the Aussie Open warmups to start.

Last year, I posted some of the videos that were helping me get through the offseason. Here are 10 more.

I’m not sure what year this is from, but this video of Roger Federer attempting to play left-handed is quite amusing:

Do you miss Robin Soderling as much as I do? Probably not. But here’s some highlights of Soderling’s win over Rafael Nadal at the 2009 World Tour Finals:

For those of you who miss both Soderling and Andy Roddick, here’s the full Brisbane final from 2011:

If you’re missing Marat Safin, his last match in Paris against Juan Martin del Potro is a quality affair:

Richard Gasquet temper tantrums are basically the best thing to happen to YouTube. I’ve watched these videos many times, but they never get old.

Gasquet clarifying his family relationships in Miami:

And Gasquet demonstrating just how artfully one can throw socks at the US Open:

This 2008 video of Maria Sharapova commentating a Jelena Jankovic match is entertaining (link to part 2):

This is another classic. Federer singing (very badly and loudly) with the Swiss Davis Cup team:

Here’s something fun for Federer fans reeling from his poor 2013 season: a first round match from 2006 Wimbledon against Richard Gasquet. You can probably tell how that went for Gasquet from the fact that the best-of-five match is less than an hour and a half long:

This Hit for Haiti exhibition match from 2010 is great. From Federer whistling at Nadal when he bends over to tie his shoes, to every point ending on a Sam Stosur error, to Bernie Tomic‘s awkward cameo at the end, it’s a must-watch:

Feel free to post more video suggestions in the comments section!

Amy can be spotted on a tennis court in the Philadelphia area, shanking backhand volleys.

Thanks! I personally would have preferred Gasquet vs Roddick 2007 than Gasquet vs Federer 2006 but… 😉

Do you have any recommendations for good articles to help us get through the next few weeks? I remember the New York Times put a couple of old articles from their archive profiling Jimmy Connors and Evonne Goolagong on their website right before the US Open and I would love to find some more in depth stuff like that.

That Fed-Gasquet video is blocked in many countries.

Can anyone download it and then upload it to youtube with less restrictions?
