Well, what a week it’s been in Charleston, all culminating in a great singles final today that saw Serena take out JJ 3-6, 6-0, 6-2. From Vania to Venus, Putintseva to Serena, it’s been absolutely unforgettable. And really, don’t even get me started on JJ. It’s been a blast to chronicle everything here at The Changeover, and my writing is far from done. I have more interviews, reflections, and essays to come throughout the next week or so, but I though the perfect way to finish off my physical week in Charleston would be to look at some photos. The wonderful Frank Oplanic took all of these photos and gave them to us to publish, which was really fantastic. Please don’t steal. Just enjoy.
Serena, Venus, Victoria, Andrew, and Harry at All-Access Hour. Fabulous.
Melanie/JJ feels like a lifetime ago. Oh the dramaz.
Around the grounds earlier in the week. The Family Circle Cup has quite a large campus!

Venus and Madison. Past, present, AND future. Love it.
Melanie Oudin. Workin it.
Eyes on the ball, Madison.
You too, Stefanie. (This is pretty terrifying.)
Sammy! I’d almost forgotten that you were here. Get well soon!
HAHAHA. This outfit on Shvedova is EVERYTHING. Fila is such a mess.
HIT IT GOOLS. YOU CAN DO IT.
Vania is the best.
I mean it. The best.
Petko’s the best too.
LOOK AT THOSE MUSCLES.
Hai Mallory.
What do we even call Serena’s hair-do? What is life?
A sideways Venus is still better than the rest.
She’s pretty cool like this too.
This was probably a winner.
Or, you know, maybe it wasn’t.
Stefanie Voegele knows how to FOCUS.
Doin her thang.
Sometimes tennis is hard.
Lucky girls.
Kiki and Lucie, doubles champions and life champions.
Huber and her BABY.
Joshua dun curr.
Billie Jean King Stadium during the singles final.
JJ, taking solace in the couch she called home this week.
Serena, sitting on her throne.
Despite the in-match drama, there was nothing but love and respect between these two after the match. Great to see.

Wow — awesome photos! (I don’t remember Melanie’s guns being that developed back in 2010, but I was also seriously sleep-deprived, so maybe I’m misremembering.) Looking forward to the rest of your reports (especially if there’s more Kiki — she definitely seems like one to keep watching).
Yeah, I got lucky that Frank let me post their photos- much better than my cameraphone ones! Melanie definitely has muscles, but didn’t look incredibly fit to me. But hey- what do I know?
Taking a bus back to NYC tonight (UGH), but will have more to come this week.
That green clay looks really good, they should put that down everywhere.
Linz,
Can not wait until you post more goodies on Charleston. With Amy in Miami, you in Charleston and Juan Jose in Houston covering tennis events. Changeover tennis is rocking with action.
It may be my eyes but it looks like despite losing the chairs, wicker lives on in Charleston in the shape of wicker tissue boxes!
Maybe one day Vera will return and rip one to shreds.
