WOW. So Berdych and Rosol just took out Wawrinka and Chiudinelli 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-7(3), 24-22. This was the second heart-breaker for Stanislas Wawrinka in the last few weeks, and it gives the defending Davis Cup Champions a 2-1 lead heading into day three. Here are just a few of the insane stats from the historical match:
- Wawrinka saved 11 match points on his serve, before Chiudinelli double-faulted on No. 13.
- There were a combined 51 aces, 19 double-faults, 249 winners, 127 UFEs and 589 points.
- The fifth set alone lasted three hours and thirty-five minutes. That’s longer than 18 of the 21 matches contested this weekend in World Group play.
- The entire match last seven hours and two minutes, making it the longest Davis Cup match ever, and the 2nd-longest tennis match ever. (Any guesses as to the longest?) In seven hours and two minutes, one could get a good night of sleep, fly from New York to London, drive back and forth from New York City to Philadelphia twice, watch 9.5 episodes of Friday Night Lights, or this:
